Your Samsung refrigerator’s water inlet valve controls all of the water that runs through the refrigerator. It doesn’t just divert the water to the water dispenser and ice machine sides. It also controls if and how much water is released based on cues from other parts of your refrigerator. If your refrigerator has a water leak, check the water inlet valve first. Common problems include:

  • continuous dripping from the water dispenser because the water inlet valve doesn’t completely shut off.
  • an overflowing water connection to the ice machine.
  • no response from the ice machine or water dispenser.
  • water leaks at the back of the refrigerator where the water inlet valve has cracked.

Fortunately, replacing the water inlet valve can be simple. Just order replacement part #DA62-02360B for your Samsung refrigerator. Then follow these steps to remove the old part and install the new water inlet valve yourself.

1. Unplug and turn off the water.

Whenever you’re replacing parts in a major appliance, unplug the appliance before you get started. This keeps you and the surrounding area safer from electrical shocks. It’s especially important during this procedure because you will be unplugging a wire harness inside of the refrigerator. Also, turn off the local water to the refrigerator. This will prevent leaks and flowing water when you remove hoses from the water inlet valve.

2. Disassemble the rear of the refrigerator to access the water inlet valve.

First, pull the refrigerator away from the wall if you haven’t already done so. All of the work during this repair will be at the rear of the machine.Next, remove the rear access panel. Loosen the screws along the edge of the panel and set them to the side where you won’t lose them, Pull the panel up off the bottom groove to lift the panel free, and then set it aside.

3. Remove the old water inlet valve.

First, locate the water inlet valve in the bottom right corner of the refrigerator. It’s connected to the refrigerator by a wire harness, three water hoses, and a bracket. During this step, you will be removing the part from these connection areas.

To start, loosen the nut holding the blue water line secure at the top of the inlet valve. Then pull the tube off the inlet, Make sure you have a towel ready to catch any excess water. Push the blue tube to the side and expect more water to drip from it due to the movement.

Next, unscrew the water inlet valve bracket from the right edge of the refrigerator. Tilt the part as far out as you can so you can reach your hand into the fridge over it. Now you can reach the small cover box above the part that contains the wire harness. Squeeze the sides and pull the cover box down to remove it.

After that, unplug the wire harness by depressing the clips on the sides. The newly free wire harness attaches to the top of the valve and will come free with the part.

Then slide the two flexible white hoses out of the clips on the left side of the valve so you can pull the valve out from the refrigerator. Detach the white support bracket that holds the two bottom hoses.

After that, remove the white hoses themselves from the water inlet valve. To remove the hoses, locate the locking rings between the valve and the white tubes. Then press down the collars to fully remove white tubs.

Once the valve is completely separated, set it aside.

4. Install the new Samsung water inlet valve.

First, attach the two white tubes to the bottom of the new valve. To do this, remove the locking rings. Then push the smaller of the two tubes into the smaller opening and the larger tube into the larger hole. Make sure each one goes in far enough to obscure the dark lines. Once the tubes are in place, slide the locking rings back between the wide circles near the end of the tubes and valve to secure them.

Next, push the lengths of the white tubes back into the refrigerator and the valve with it. Orient it so the wire harness is at the top. Then plug in the wire harness. Reattach the cover box by clicking it into place.

After that, reattach the white plastic support bracket from the old valve to the new one and clip the tubes into place on the bracket. Slide the excess tube lengths into the retaining clip on the left side of where the valve belongs. This prevents accidental bunching or pinching. Then slide the whole water valve into place. Make sure the metal bracket on the right side lines up with the screw hole on the frame of the refrigerator. Secure the bracket to the frame. Also, attach the blue water inlet valve to the top of the valve. To do this, remove the nut at the end of the valve and set it aside. Push the end of the hose into the port of the inlet valve. Once it’s pushed into place, tighten the nut over it. Use pliers or a wrench to tighten it securely. but don’t overtighten it.

5. Test the water and reassemble the refrigerator.

Turn on the water to make sure there are no leaks from either overtightening or not pushing in the hoses far enough.  If there are no leaks, leave the water turned on and continue to reassemble the rear of the refrigerator.

Slide the rear bottom access panel down onto the bottom groove. Tilt it flush with the outside of the refrigerator. Then resecure it with the screws around the perimeter of the panel.

Plug the refrigerator back in and push it back into place.
